Does God number the hairs on our head?

Debra asked: What does it mean when the Bible says God knows the number of hairs on your head?

Hi Debra,

Thanks for writing to us. Jesus said this in Luke 12:6–7: "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows" (ESV). Jesus' words can be taken literally. He means that God actually knows the number of hairs on each person's head. He was teaching that our loving God knows everything. There is nothing about us that He does not know. Because of that, we can trust Him for everything.
