The Crazed Crowd

Mark 5:15, 17
And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. . . . And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region.

Only moments earlier, this man was lacerating himself with stones, confined to a dark cave on the outskirts of town. Now, thanks to Christ, he is seated, clothed in righteousness, and in his right mind. But how do the townspeople respond? “Get out of here, Jesus!” “You’re not welcome!” “Leave us be!” That is the definition of insanity. To witness the miraculous, life-changing work of Christ and still reject Him is to be, in the truest sense, out of one’s mind.

But think about it: As this now-converted, now-liberated man rests in the presence of his Redeemer, does he care what the crowd has to say?
