Isaiah 64:4

From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him.

I wonder what came into Isaiah’s mind when he thought of all the false gods ‘of old.’ Maybe he thought of Ra, Egypt’s sun god, who effectively drowned with Pharoah in the Red Sea, or Poseidon, who was as fallible as the Greek men in whose image he was created, or the child-sacrificing Baal who constantly led Israel into gross infidelities. Whatever the case, his conclusion is clear: nothing false can compete with the truth: nothing dead can hold a candle to the life: nothing backward can stand against the way. And although thousands of years have come and gone since Isaiah wrote these lines, and though we’ve watched new religions like Islam and anti-religions like Marxism and neo-religions like secularism continue to darken the world stage, our Redeemer, the pure, undiminished light of the world, continues to shine as radiantly as He always has.

Christian, there are people in your life right now who still haven’t perceived with their ears and seen with their eyes the radiant glory of God’s love. So be the one who shows them!
