Food for the Road

Isaiah 5:13

Therefore my people go into exile for lack of knowledge; their honored men go hungry, and their multitude is parched with thirst.

From the fall of Adam to our present day, God’s people have always been in exile. There’s still a devil on the loose, the world is still fallen, and men are still hostile to Christ and His gospel, which means that whether we realize it or not we live every moment behind enemy lines. That’s why we can’t afford to forget Christ’s unbreakable vow to us in John 16:33: “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” See, while it might be exile on the outside, while the nations may rage around us and governors may take away our rights and neighbors may mock us for our convictions, our Father offers us the sustenance we need to thrive. He doesn’t save manna for the Promised Land; He feeds us here in the wilderness, day by day, as we walk with Him by faith.

So friend, no matter what trial met you as you got out of bed this morning, nourish your spirit with the manna of God’s presence and don’t let Isaiah 5:13 be the description of your life today.
