Can a divorced couple remarry each other?

by Stephen Davey

Tina asked: If a couple gets divorced, would it be wrong for them to remarry each other again?

Thank you so much for that question, Tina.

Let’s assume that a couple gets divorced and that nothing else happened, such as one of them getting married to someone else. If they were to remarry each other, that would be cause for great celebration. That would be the pinnacle of reconciliation in my mind. I would rejoice over that. That couple would have re-established God's ideal, which is one man married to one woman for life.

Yes, assuming that neither of them married another person, a divorced couple would be biblically free to reconcile and remarry.

Thanks for your question,

Stephen
