Are the Jews God’s chosen people?

por Stephen Davey

Dorothy asked: “Are the Jewish people still God’s chosen people or is that now the Christians?”

That’s a very important question. Paul actually answered it for us in Romans 11 because the early church was wondering the exact same thing. Paul replied:

Has God rejected his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. [2] God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. (Romans 11:1–2 ESV)

Paul went on in that chapter to talk about how Gentiles believers are grafted into the tree of God’s chosen people. Gentiles benefit spiritually from the promises that God made to Israel. Gentiles are part of God's eternal future.

But there is nothing in the Bible that teaches that the church has replaced Israel. God has a future plan for Israel, and many of the end time prophesies deal with God’s plan to bring about a spiritual awakening in Jewish people. So yes, the Jewish people are still God’s chosen people.

Thanks for asking, Dorthy.
