The Hardest Mission

Mark 5:19b
“Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”

Notice that Jesus’ commission here to His new disciple is to “go home” and tell his “friends.” That’s the hardest challenge of all, isn’t it? Sometimes it’s easier to share a tract with a stranger than it is to share Christ with kin. Two hours at a soup kitchen? That’s nothing compared to entering into the difficult drama of daily witness to the very people who know you best. You can’t clock in and out of that. It is uncomfortable, even dangerous. In Mark 5, I get the feeling that this once demon-possessed man is so moved by Jesus’ mercy that he races home earnestly. Before the words have fully left the Savior’s mouth, this disciple is already running to reach his family.

Will you follow his footsteps today?
