The Daylight Dawns
Isaiah 8:20
To the teaching and to the testimony! If they will not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn.
Where do we go for rest when our spirit grows feint? To the teaching and the testimony. As David writes in Psalm 43:5a: “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God.” Where do we go for wisdom when we find ourselves at a perplexing crossroads? To the teaching and the testimony. As James says in James 1:15a: “if anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask God who gives generously without reproach.” Where do we go for comfort when sorrows dismantle our plans? To the teaching and the testimony. As Paul says in Romans 5:3b-4: “but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” And where do we go when temptations lure us into sin? To the teaching and the testimony. As John writes in 1John 2:16a-17: “For all that is in the world is passing away … but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”
Christian, let it dawn on you right now just how dark your life would be without God’s Word.
