Sequoias
Mark 1:27a
And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority!”
More than two thousand years have passed since Jesus amazed these masses of people with what they thought was a new teaching, but His message is still as fresh today as it was then. As Paul writes, “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17). Through all of our enlightenments and renaissances and technological revolutions, history bears witness to the fact that Jesus has always been the Alpha and Omega of the story. Like a forest of sequoias, His words not only stand through the tests of time, but they continue to rise higher still.
Rest in the shade of His loving branches today.
Further Reflection
“Yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”
