Remnants
Isaiah 10:20-21a
In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean on him who struck them, but will lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. A remnant will return.
Do you remember that old song “When the Saints Go Marching In"? I haven’t sung it since childhood—I think I used to sing it in Sunday school—but as soon as I sat to reflect on Isaiah 10:21 today, the chorus-line sprung back to mind: “Oh how I want to be in that number when the saints go marching in.” Christian, look around you today. Look at where society’s headed. Watch the news and see what’s happening. Listen to commercials and see what’s selling. The fact is, the exile and idolatry and injustice Isaiah decries throughout his book is permeating our own culture right now and the clamor is deafening.
But take heart: you’re part of God’s remnant. You’re already in that number—that marching band—that saintly choir, hymning to the Kingdom of Heaven in the environs of hell. So lean on the LORD today, walk in His holiness, live by His truth, and let the spark of spiritual revival begin in you.
