Providence—a Patchwork
Providence—a Patchwork
Genesis 46:2-3
And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.” Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation.”
I’ve got to admit: I sort of forgot about Jacob. He’s shown up here and there over the last ten chapters; he’s had a few cameos on stage; he’s said a few brief lines; but Joseph’s the star of the drama now—the leading actor—the main man. Jacob’s not even in a supporting role at this point. He’s back stage, somewhere in the Canaanite foothills. But friend, behind the scenes, the Lord’s been nurturing him through his long years of suffering. Stitch by stitch, thread by thread, moment by moment, the Father’s been weaving a coat of many colors out of Jacob’s life. And He’s saved His finest threads for last!
Friend, whether you’re 35 or 95 today, you’re as much a part of God’s handiwork in this generation as anyone. No matter what the devil says, your life’s a significant thread. So keep your chin up! God’s still got wonders up ahead with your name on them.
