Like a Rock
John 16:33b “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
I once went hiking with a friend along a mountain river, but storms had swelled the streams and the paths were more dangerous than usual. At one point, after climbing up a short rock face, we found ourselves atop a falls alongside a swift current. We began to walk across until, about halfway, my foot slipped and I started to slide toward the falls. Amidst inner panic, I noticed a boulder just barely within reach and quickly seized the rock with my fingers. With God’s help, and with every inch of strength I could muster, I pulled myself up through the opposing current and back to my feet. Now, whenever I hear Jesus say, “Take Heart,” I effectively hear Him say, “Hold fast to Me with all you’ve got!”
Friend, don’t let those currents of despair sweep you down today. Grasp the Rock of Ages instead!
Extra Refreshment
From the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. Psalm 61:2-3
