In the Rearview

In the Rearview

Genesis 40:21, 23

He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand. … Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.

I once travelled with my wife to rural Vermont in the middle of February. The GPS in our rental SUV took us the wrong way, and we found ourselves stuck on a sheet of ice in the middle of the woods, sixty yards from the main road. Eventually, God sent an angelic young girl who spotted us on her walk home from school and went to ask help of a nearby farmer. About half an hour later, we heard the hum of his bull-dozer approaching and watched him through our rearview mirror dumping rows of sand between our SUV and the main road. Finally, we were able to get out. To say I was grateful is an understatement—I was ecstatic! Yet, ashamedly, I didn’t get the man’s address before driving off, which means I didn’t send him a thank you card once I got back home (sorry mom—you taught me better).

Friend, are there people in your life who helped you out of some jam, some dark hour, some season of despair? Remember their sacrifice! And take time today to thank them for it in a meaningful way.
