Cut it Out!
Mark 9:43a, 45a, 47a
“And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off ... And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off ... And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. "
The above verses are not a good compliment to morning coffee and breakfast, but set those things aside for a moment and listen to how seriously our Lord takes sin. These graphic, physical pictures, while certainly not be taken in the most literal sense, since you and I wouldn’t have many body parts left, still have physical applications today. Serious ones, in fact. Maybe you need to lose the cell-phone or internet access for a while. Maybe you need to quit your gym membership. Maybe you need to cancel that subscription to that magazine or blog or television service.
Whatever is causing you to sin today, Christ’s message is simple: Cut it off.
