Spring Up O Well!
John 4:10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”
I love this God-ordained encounter between Jesus and a Samaritan woman. Picture it again in your mind: There’s our Lord, exhausted from His journey, waiting for a drink. Coincidence? Not even close. This isn’t just any old well; this is Jacob’s well, dug centuries before by the great Patriarch himself. Don’t miss that. Jesus effectively tells this woman, “I’m better than your religious icons and your spiritual hand-me-downs and your nationalistic symbols.” I imagine her jaw drops immediately. She probably drops the jar as well. Greater than Jacob of old?! How can this be?
Because Jesus doesn’t give us mere relics; He gives us His Righteousness.
Extra Refreshment
“But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
John 4:14
