The book of Jonah, with all its fascinating twists and miraculous events, offers many lessons to God’s servants. It reminds us of the folly—and the consequences—of disobeying the Lord’s clearly stated will. It also teaches us that God is merciful, both to His wayward children and to unbelievers who are living godless lives. The missionary message of this book reveals the heart of God toward sinners, though ironically, that message is one Jonah himself only reluctantly embraced. We thank God for what Jonah teaches us, but we should be careful to avoid Jonah’s hateful attitude toward his enemies.
