The Journey Through Deuteronomy
The Wisdom Journey through Deuteronomy.
The book of Deuteronomy consists of several final addresses, or sermons, presented by Moses to the people of Israel. The people were encamped on the plains of Moab, ready to enter and take possession of the land promised to them. The word Deuteronomy means “second law,” but we should not think this book is either an addendum to the Mosaic law or merely a reiteration of it. Rather, four decades after receiving the law on Mount Sinai, Moses is now addressing a new generation of Israelites, reminding them of that law, urging them to recommit themselves to keeping it, and applying it to their lives in the promised land.
