The Journey Through Hebrews
The author of the epistle to the Hebrews does not identify himself by name, but we know he wrote to Jewish believers in Christ who were beginning to struggle because of persecution and hardships. Some may have begun to doubt that they were on the right track in giving their lives to Jesus and were feeling pressured to go back to “regular” Judaism. The writer cites andsummarizes Old Testament revelation to show the supremacy of Jesus Christ over the prophets, Moses, angels, and the priesthood and sacrifices required by the law and practiced by the Jewish people. Jesus and the new covenant He instituted by His own sacrifice are superior to all the Old Testament system and the perfect fulfillment of it. He is the only Savior and Lord, and as such He demands our commitment, our loyalty, and our worship. In today’s world, which increasingly seeks security everywhere else, the book of Hebrews still provides the timely and solid hope that rests in Jesus Christ alone.
