God Always Has the Final Word (Psalms 74-76)

Psalms 74-76

12/01/2025 Stephen Davey

When the temple was destroyed and Jerusalem lay in ruins, the psalmist Asaph expressed Israel’s heartbreak in Psalm 74. God had judged the nation’s sin, and now the people—though repentant—were waiting. These psalms capture the sorrow of sin, the longing for restoration, and the ultimate hope that God always keeps His promises.

Psalm 75 reminds us that God’s judgment is not random or unjust; it is scheduled. The day of judgment is coming for the wicked. In poetic but powerful terms, the psalmist describes God handing the wicked a cup of wrath. But for those who trust in Christ, that cup has already been consumed—by Jesus on the cross.

Psalm 76 takes us to a moment in Israel’s history when God delivered His people from certain destruction. It’s a celebration of divine intervention, a reminder that God can do the impossible.

These psalms call us to wait with faith, trust in His justice, and worship His majesty—even while we wait. God has not forgotten. God is not late. And He always has the final word.
