Asking Seven Forbidden Questions (Psalm 73:1-15)

When doubt rises, faith begins with honest confession

11/27/2025 Stephen Davey

Have you ever silently wondered, “Why do unbelievers have it so easy?” or, “Is living a godly life even worth it?” You’re not alone. In Psalm 73, Asaph, the music leader of Israel, confesses that he almost walked away from his faith because of these very questions

Asaph boldly voices what many believers quietly feel. He asks seven “forbidden” questions—about injustice, prosperity, suffering, and doubt. His honesty gives you permission to bring your own struggles to the Lord. He wrestles with the confusing reality that wicked people often thrive while the faithful suffer. But he doesn’t stop there. He takes his turmoil to God and begins a journey toward a renewed perspective, as we’ll see in part two.

This episode explores verses 1–15, where Asaph’s doubts grow louder than his faith—yet God doesn’t silence him. In fact, God leads him to write it all down as a psalm for others to learn from.

If you’ve been discouraged or tempted to give up, this message is for you. You’ll discover that God isn’t afraid of your questions. He invites them, and He promises to answer with wisdom, truth, and grace.
