This booklet comes from Stephen's exposition of Luke 6:27-36. Early in His ministry, those who followed Jesus had expectations for Him. They expected their messiah to wage war against Rome, free Israel, and bring God’s kingdom to earth during their lifetime. But Jesus had different intentions, and He challenged His followers to conform to His will, not try to make Him conform to theirs. Jesus’ sermon on the mount, transcribed in Luke’s Gospel, will be just as difficult and challenging for us today as it was for the Jewish patriots and nationalists in Jesus’ audience.
