Prayer for the Nations: Montenegro

Montenegro is a small mountainous country in Southeastern Europe, bordered by the Adriatic Sea and surrounded by Bosnia, Serbia, Albania, and Kosovo. With a population of around 600,000 people, Montenegro is traditionally Eastern Orthodox, and religion is closely tied to national identity. While most Montenegrins identify as Christian, few have heard a clear, biblical presentation of the gospel, and evangelical believers are extremely few in number. The evangelical church in Montenegro is one of the smallest in all of Europe. However, God is at work through faithful pastors, missionaries, and believers who are sowing seeds of truth with great patience and love.

This week, we invite you to pray for Montenegro. Ask God to open spiritual eyes, strengthen gospel workers, and call many to a living faith in Jesus Christ.

Ways to Pray for Montenegro:

  1. Pray for gospel clarity, that Montenegrins would understand the difference between cultural Christianity and true faith in Christ.

  2. Ask God to encourage and empower the few evangelical churches, especially in cities like Podgorica and Nikšić.

  3. Pray for boldness and protection for believers sharing their faith in a resistant culture.

  4. Lift up young people, that they would be open to the gospel and hungry for truth.

  5. Intercede for Orthodox-background seekers, that they would find life in a personal relationship with Jesus.

  6. Pray for unity among evangelical believers, who often feel isolated and outnumbered.

  7. Ask God to raise up local leaders, trained and grounded in Scripture, to lead the next generation.

  8. Pray for gospel access in every region, including remote towns and villages.

  9. Lift up church planters and missionaries, that they would be wise, encouraged, and fruitful in ministry.

  10. Pray for creative outreach efforts, through literature, websites, social media, and relational evangelism.

  11. Ask God to heal wounds from past ethnic and religious divisions, replacing them with grace and reconciliation.

  12. Pray for a quiet revival, that Montenegro would be transformed by the power of the gospel from the inside out.

Thank you for praying for Montenegro this week. Though the church is small, the gospel is powerful. Let’s trust God to break through tradition, soften hearts, and bring spiritual life to this beautiful but largely unreached nation.
