Prayer for the Nations: Laos

Introduction to Laos:

Laos is a landlocked country in Southeast Asia, bordered by Thailand, Vietnam, China, Cambodia, and Myanmar. With a population of over 7 million, it is predominantly Buddhist, both in culture and religion. Laos is one of the few remaining communist states, and the government strictly controls religious expression. Evangelical Christians make up a very small percentage of the population and often face hostility, including harassment, arrest, and confiscation of property—especially in rural villages. Despite these challenges, the church is growing quietly and faithfully. Believers are sharing their faith with courage and compassion, and God is moving even in the most difficult places.

Call to Action:

This week, we invite you to pray for Laos. Pray for the strengthening of the church, for protection over believers, and for the gospel to reach every village and heart in this spiritually needy nation.

Ways to Pray for Laos:

  1. Pray for courage and endurance for believers facing persecution for their faith.

  2. Ask God to strengthen house churches, which often meet in secret to avoid government opposition.

  3. Pray for new believers, especially those from Buddhist or animist backgrounds, to grow strong in their faith.

  4. Lift up pastors and church leaders, that they would have wisdom, boldness, and clear teaching from Scripture.

  5. Pray for access to Bibles and discipleship materials, especially in rural and restricted areas.

  6. Intercede for families divided by faith, that salvation would come to entire households.

  7. Pray for the youth of Laos, that they would be curious about the gospel and open to Jesus.

  8. Ask God to provide for the needs of believers who have lost jobs, homes, or community because of their faith.

  9. Pray for the government of Laos, that it would soften its stance and allow greater religious freedom.

  10. Lift up missionaries and Christian workers, that they would find creative and effective ways to share Christ.

  11. Pray for unity among believers, that the church in Laos would be known for love and truth.

  12. Ask God to prepare leaders who will shepherd the next generation of Laotian Christians.

Conclusion:

Thank you for praying for Laos this week. In a country where following Christ can come at great cost, your prayers are a powerful encouragement to our brothers and sisters. Let’s keep asking God to bring revival, freedom, and hope to the people of Laos through the truth of the gospel.
