Uncomfortable Mercy

Mark 2:16-17

And the scribes of the Pharisees . . . said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

On the face of it, these scribes are asking a good question that you and I have probably asked on many occasions: Can God really be at work over there? Truly, God not only works in mysterious ways, but He often works in uncomfortable ways as well. Learn a lesson from Jesus here in this scene. He is not concerned with appearances or reputation. He is unmoved by judgmental glances and murmuring lips. His only concern is to find lost sheep that have gone astray and bring them back home to God.

Is that your only concern as well?

Further Reflection

For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
