The Weight of Glory

John 5:44 “How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?”

How many lawyers today are making arguments in courtrooms not for the sake of justice but for the sake of glory? How many doctors are pursuing medical careers not for the sake of serving others but for the sake of money? How many pastors today are preaching ear-tickling words not for the honor of God but for reputation? Tragically, from public arenas to facebook profiles, from political platforms to online blogs, and from public actions to private ambitions, ‘Make a name for thyself’ has replaced ‘Love the Lord Thy God’ as the ultimate commandment for many believers.

Ponder this right now: if Jesus, whose name is above all names, lived to glorify and obey the Father in all things, how can we who bear His name live to glorify ourselves?
