The War at Your Doorstep
Isaiah 54:17
“No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed … This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and their vindication from me, declares the LORD.”
If our ongoing catalogue of spiritual conflicts has taught us anything, it’s that we can’t rely on past strategies to face present weapons, right? Hell is always forging new arms against us, modifying them, upgrading them with our particular weaknesses in mind, so it’s as if God continues to fortify our defenses every new day. Think of it like this, friend: God inspired Hezekiah to build a thick wall around Jerusalem during the Assyrian siege, and it kept Sennacherib from storming the gates and destroying the city. But that wall would’ve crumbled against Hitler’s Luftwaffe, right? God used David’s unique, shepherding skill of sling-shooting during Israel’s battle with the Philistines, conquering Goliath of all people, but that stone would have done nothing against a bullet-proof tank, correct? So God supplies us with exactly what we need to face today’s foe—not yesterday’s or tomorrow’s—because the present battle is the most defining.
Swords rust and stone walls collapse, but the promise of the Lord stands forever. So consider Isaiah 54:17 as your spiritual armament for the battle ahead. Looking back, it will be your vindication.
