The Same Boat

Mark 4:38b-39
And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!”

“Will you forget me forever?” questioned David in Psalm 13:1. “He crushes me with a tempest,” cried Job in Job 9:17. “Arise, O God, defend your cause,” prayed Asaph in Psalm 74:22. In truth, we have all been in that same boat. Haven’t you asked Jesus that question amidst your own suffering: “Do You not care?” Maybe you’re there right now. Perhaps you’ve lost your job or a loved one; perhaps someone has betrayed you and your prayers for reconciliation have gone unanswered. From David to these disciples to you today, let the voice of our loving, empathizing Savior penetrate your fear as He whispers through the storm . . .

“Peace! Be still!”

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
