The Panorama of Peace

Isaiah 55:12
“For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”

Too often, writers over-emphasize a point by saying things like “we need this now more than ever” or “I never understood the wonder of this Scripture until now,” but I must admit that upon reading Isaiah 55:12 afresh today, I’m struggling to keep that stream of sensationalist phrases from bursting through my fingers. This Scripture is too immersive for mere reflection, and I can’t engulf myself in the wonder of it all. Friend, look where we are in this scene! We’re not part of the crowd throwing garlands and clapping our hands and singing at the top of our lungs; we’re the recipients of the applause. This cosmic ovation is for us, the heirs of grace, the children of the King, the heart of the earth.

Christian, every step you take today in your walk of faith is another step toward that triumphal procession. So if you start to feel weak, go outside, listen to the wind blow through the trees, and hear in the gentle rush a prelude to the peace ahead.
