The Great Awakening
Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.”
To say that Jacob’s been sleepwalking through his spiritual life thus far would be an understatement. He’s cheated his brother out of a birthright and a blessing, lied to his father, and hit the road in order to escape the consequences; yet a word from God suddenly changes that. Sometimes that’s all it takes, isn’t it? A little light, a little dream, a little adversity, a little opportunity, a little opposition, and all of sudden we’re aware of God’s presence all around us. For some, it’s the cry of a newborn baby that throws them back on their knees. For others, it’s a doctor’s report that makes them serious about their walk. For others, it’s an intervening hand in the pit of despair that leads them back to God—like the woman who wrote Wisdom to tell us how she was on her way to commit suicide one night, felt the urge to turn on the radio, and heard through the static a gospel message that saved her life.
Friend, surely the LORD is in this place too—He’s with you right now as your read this. So believe that! Know it! And live in light of it today.
