The Distinctive Argument

John 13:35 “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Isn’t it baffling to think that after only two hundred years of American history, our culture is already post-Christian and pre- Christian? Millions of people in America are either done with historic Christianity or they have no concrete idea of what Christianity even is. Just find a crowded street today and ask twenty different people who Jesus is and the answers will surprise you. Still, regardless of cultural upheaval, what Jesus says here in John 13:35 has remained the unshakable argument over the past two thousand years. Even the atheist and the pagan alike see the love of Christ in action and effectively ask, “What on earth is that?”

Believer, to a watching world, ‘love one another’ may look cliché on paper, but it will never look cliché in practice.
