The Constant Gardener

Isaiah 27:2-3

In that day, “A pleasant vineyard, sing of it! I, the LORD, am its keeper; every moment I water it. Lest anyone punish it, I keep it night and day.

Our Lord’s joy in this scene is tremendous, isn’t it? It shimmers like fresh fruit from the vine, glistening in the morning dew of Heaven. But as I envision this scene, as I try to imagine what this glorious garden of God will be like, I recall to mind that first garden, the one at the dawn of time, the one with that forbidden fruit that looked so intoxicating, so infuriatingly out of reach, as it dangled before our eyes; but now, in light of this reborn, redeemed Eden, I can see the old, spoiled fruit for what it was. What a world of difference between the two, right? It’s the difference between light and dark, life and death, wine and poison, Heaven and hell; I can taste it all even now!

Christian, I pray this little foretaste of Heaven gives your spirit the nourishment it needs for the day ahead. And remember: whether you feel it or not, the same faithful hands that are watering and pruning and tending that feast are nurturing and sanctifying and preparing you to eat of it.
