Taking the Stand
Isaiah 30:8
“And now, go, write it before them on a tablet and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come as a witness forever.
You’ve seen those murder-mystery courtroom dramas where the testimony of some eye-witness is everything, right? How often is that witness maligned and bribed and threatened and sometimes even killed before he’s able to take the stand? If only that were just true in fiction. How tragic to think of all the innocent people suffering in prison right now, while wicked men roam the streets freely, because some key witness got bought off or taken down in an unjust trial. So as I read these remarkable words here in Isaiah 30:8 today, I can’t help but see them as a profound testament to the character of the Scriptures as God’s chief witness. This book is His indestructible testimony, His eye-witness account. The devil’s tried everything he can, employing thugs like Nero and Hitler and Voltaire to silence it, but he’s failed. He’s killed the messengers, but the message resounds! It sits on history’s witness-stand unmoved, undeterred, and unmistakable.
So Christian, even if you feel weak today in the face of such great hostility, remember where your power lies.
