Signs in the Highs and Lows

Isaiah 7:10-11

Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz: “Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.”

This past Sunday, as I sat down with my wife and son for a little Bible time, the Lord put it on my heart to go around the room and share some disappointments from the week before moving on to share some unforeseen blessings. Micah got a cold earlier in the week which meant that we ended up canceling two things he was really looking forward to—a sleepover with his granddad and a party with some of his homeschool buddies; but as the three of us reflected back on the week together, reminding each other of specific instances where God surprised us with joy in the midst of discouragement, gratitude began to change our countenance. Like winter ice in the springtime sun, our lingering frustration melted away in the light of remembrance.

Christian, how have you witnessed God’s provision this past week? How has He surprised you with joy? From the stars in the sky to the roots in the ground, His signs are everywhere. So don’t let your discouragement for what God hasn’t done overwhelm your gratitude for all He has.
