Sabbath Psalm 23

Sabbath Psalm 23

(From the song, ‘Hallelujah: rewritten,’ with a line borrowed from George Herbert’s ‘The Agonie’)

I heard about that minor chord that David played before You, Lord, confessing all his sin and anguish to Ya’. A humble cry from trembling lips, “There’s blood upon my fingertips!” A broken heart composing Hallelujah.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

You look for men in beggar’s garb—the lame, the meek, the poor in heart—the souls who can’t give anything back to Ya’. You trade Your riches for our rigs, You change the names on all our tags, and all we offer back is Hallelujah!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Oh Jesus You’ve been here before! You’ve seen this room, You’ve walked this floor. You knew me long before I ever knew Ya’. You cast my devils in the hall, and wrote Your name on all the walls, and now this house is filled with hallelujahs!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Oh Savior sent from God above, I now know why they call You Love: cuz You died for men who drove the nails into Ya’! And like that thief I’m still surprised that You’d want me in paradise, so here’s my love—my life—my hallelujah!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Lift your voice, the war has ceased!
The wrath of God has been appeased!
We’re seated at the Wedding feast!
At God’s side—a spotless bride.
And drink the cup of Heaven’s vine!
God felt as blood but we as wine!
And eat the bread of Life divine!
It satisfies—all thanks to Christ.
