Peripheral Vision

John 21:21-22  When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”

John ends his Gospel with a behind-the-scenes glimpse into an all-too-human problem. Jesus has just famously asked Peter to follow Him in death, but immediately Peter points his finger at John and asks, “Wait, what about him?” Friend, admit it: we’re just like Peter, aren’t we? How often have you watched a fellow believer get a promotion or have a grandchild or buy a cottage in the mountains and thought, “Wait, why not me?” How many times has God led you down some uncomfortable road and you’ve thought, “Wait, why me?”

Today, fix your gaze solely on your Good Shepherd, follow His footsteps on the unique path He has designed for you, and let everything else fade into the periphery.

Extra Refreshment

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Philippians 3:12
