Our Morning Anchor

Our Morning Anchor

Genesis 8:22

“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”

Everything in our world seems in flux right now, from viruses to constitutions to governments to relationships to finances, and sometimes my internal sense of hope and stability fluctuates as well. But today is a wonderful day for me to open my Bible and reflect on Genesis 8:22, because the spring rains have been pouring through my town all week, and this little creek where I sit to write, that just two months ago looked like a stagnant bog, is once again bursting with life. New birches are budding overhead; green anoles are puffing out their orange necks as I cross their path; red bellied water snakes are basking on the banks in the sun, as if there was never a drought at all, as if the cold, dark winter had only been a shadow of the world, as if life has been resonating all along, but I just hadn’t looked deep enough.

Friend, don’t let some guy with a cue card on a news channel be your anchor today. Anchor your soul in God’s unfailing word, because it will be your constancy as long as the earth remains.
