On the Road Again
Thus says the LORD: “Keep justice, and do righteousness, for soon my salvation will come, and my righteousness be revealed.”
I recently took my truck to the shop for a basic oil change, only to discover that it needed $2,000 worth of engine repair. I waited five days for that repair to finish, drove to the shop to pick up the truck, and it wouldn’t start. Only then did I discover that my particular model has a design malfunction and needs to be sent back to the manufacturer. And then it hit me just how much that truck is like me! My joy cracks and my faith sputters and my love flickers, and I go to the Scriptures for a basic tune-up, only to open the hood and discover afresh that I need a complete overhaul. Yet, that’s not even the discouraging part. The discouraging part is that I won’t get that overhaul until I reach heaven and Christ restores all the parts that sin eroded.
But Christian, be encouraged by Isaiah 56:1. God doesn’t wait till we’re perfect before giving us an important commission. So today, as you long for heaven, fulfill God’s command to keep justice and do righteousness! That’s your mission for the meantime.
