New Visions for Older Eyes

Isaiah 46:4
“…even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.”

I don’t presume as a mere thirty-six-year-old to have any insight into old age, but from various conversations I’ve had over the years with grandparents and wise, older believers, I’ve learned that the desire to know God’s purpose for our lives only increases with time. So friend, if you’re reading this right now in the twilight of your walk of faith, and if you’ve perhaps been struggling to discern God’s plan for you in a season where many of your loved ones have already gone home, then you’re in wonderful company. God waited till Abraham and Sarah were nearly a hundred years old before giving them the child He promised. He waited till faithful Simeon and Anna were effectively on their deathbeds before introducing them to baby Jesus. And He waited till the apostle John was elderly and all alone on the island of Patmos before giving him the awestriking vision of Revelation.

Without a doubt, God doesn’t just carry His people through old age; He often performs His greatest wonders in old age. So keep going, Christian! There are wonders up ahead.
