Mundane Miracles

Mark 1:19
And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in the boat mending the nets.

For these two brothers, this is just another day at the office: Catch fish, gut and clean them, wash the boat, mend the gear—same old, same old. Yet, they have no idea that right there God is watching them from the shore. They are unaware that this monotonous moment in their monotonous day is about to define their lives forever. Don’t your defining moments often come unexpectedly as well? Doesn’t Christ teach you extraordinary things through the most ordinary means? There Jesus stands, on the shore of your life, in the middle of the mundane, watching you wrestle through tangled nets.

Look up from the boat! New wonders await.

Further Reflection

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
