Lay Down Your Arms

John 18:11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”

Think of all the historical upheavals, revolutions, and reformations that came on the shoulders of leaders who crusaded against tyranny. Like Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration against ‘the tyrant’ King George, or the Welsh leader Owain Glyndwr’s fight against the English, or Brutus’ infamous assassination of Julius Caesar. But even when victory over tyranny is won, that victory is short-lived, isn’t it? Often, it even paves the way for future wars. Friend, all around us today, the footsteps of satan’s onrushing armies are echoing in classrooms, in the streets, in the news, and even in churches. But keep your sword in its sheath.

Christ eternally won your peace by laying down His life, and you’ll never sustain it by taking up arms.

If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God. Romans 12:18-19a
