John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”

There’s no way to condense the gravity of Christ’s statement here into a 150-word devotional. Spend all morning pondering it; all day, if you can. Jesus has just asked Martha whether she believes in the resurrection, and Martha, still wiping tears from her eyes, replies that she knows a future resurrection is coming. She, like us, hears the word and thinks merely of an event; Christ is speaking here of Himself. Friend, Jesus’ physical coming back to life is only an earthly demonstration of the Heavenly reality that God is Life. Christ doesn’t just say, “I will show you resurrection,” or “I will give you resurrection,” but He, as incarnate God, calms Martha’s troubled heart with a declaration of declarations: “I AM Resurrection!”

Let that calm your heart as well.

So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:57-58
