Doubt or Desperation?

John 20:27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”

Growing up, I remember singing a children’s song that included the lines, “Don’t be a doubting Thomas, rest fully on His promise.” Somehow, this heroic apostle who not only devoted His life to serving Christ but who evidently died a martyr’s death in India, is remembered for doubting rather than for devotion. Friend, put yourself in his shoes here; feel his heartbreak. “Lord, I served you with these brothers,” Thomas must have prayed; “Why would You leave me out?” He wouldn’t! In this dramatic scene, Christ responds to His beloved disciple’s desperation in the most personal of ways.

Today, follow Thomas’ example and resolve to see Christ with all-or-nothing passion. That’s when the greatest visions are discovered.
