Cul de Sac Christianity

Isaiah 30:1a

“Ah, stubborn children,” declares the LORD, “who carry out a plan, but not mine, and who make an alliance, but not of my Spirit.”

How stubborn are you in your walk with Christ, friend? Roll back through the past week and consider the kind of prayers you’ve prayed and the kind of attitude you’ve expressed when those prayers aren’t answered? See, I tend to think that if I simply knew God’s specific will for my life today, that if I knew He wanted me to spend an hour at the grocery store rather than an hour playing soccer, or if He wanted me to give a few hundred bucks to church rather than pay my dental bill, then I would happily do it. But the more I consider it, the more I realize I’m not all that submissive. Yes, I yearn to know God’s plan for every decision, and, yes, I do pray for His direction on a daily basis, but often, when His plan unfolds, and when my desires get derailed, I find myself wishing He’d just aligned His will to mine instead.

Stubbornness is a roadblock to spiritual progress, friend, and unless we allow the Lord to daily remove that impediment in our ambitions, we’ll keep hitting a dead-end in our actions.
