Coming Clean

Mark 7:21-22
“For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.”

I heard a song recently with the words “I believe most people are good,” and it saddened me to think how many listeners believe that. “The heart is deceitful above all things,” wrote the prophet Jeremiah, which means that no one is good. Our problem is that we tend to compare ourselves horizontally against other people rather than vertically against Holy God. But Jesus is no respecter of persons. He speaks to every man the same truth: “I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance” (Luke 5:32).

Friend, look in the mirror of Mark 7:21 today, confess those sins to Christ, and know that He who is good will cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
