John 14:31b “Rise, let us go from here.”

Six years ago, I had the amazing privilege of marrying my wife at the edge of the Grand Canyon. My father presided over the ceremony and I still remember him pointing out to the cascading landscape, smiling back at us, and simply saying, “Seth and Megan, God isn’t calling you to stay up here where it’s safe and level; He’s calling you into the canyon.” That’s what comes to mind when I read Jesus’ closing words here in John 14. Not only has He just startled His disciples with news that He will soon leave them, but He has also warned them that the devil is on the prowl. The path before them is anything but safe now, but eleven of them will accept Christ’s call to go further into the difficult but eternally glorious canyons of God’s Will.

Disciple, will you accept Christ’s call to rise, today? The best is yet to come!

But one things I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13b-14
