Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing; speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us.
For us who believe, Christmas is another time to celebrate our Good Shepherd; but for those who don’t believe, Christmas is just another time to try unsuccessfully to shut Him out. Think of it, friend: did Satan win when he lured Adam to eat the fruit? No—he only paved the way for a divine Second Adam. Did Pharaoh succeed in his plot to kill Jewish boys? No—his very daughter raised Moses, the God-chosen deliverer. Did the religious leaders snuff out Christ’s Light when they nailed Him to a cross? No—they shed the very blood that would become a ransom for many. So maybe you’ve watched evil men permeate culture this past year and you’re scared of the wave of ostracism that comes next. Take heart from Isaiah 8:10!
Not only does God assure you of everlasting victory when you reach Heaven, but He reassures you of present victory as you walk with Him in the here and now. So come to your Shepherd this Christmas, and let the wolves howl from the woods. Their voices are powerless in His presence.
