Another Man’s Treasure

Another Man’s Treasure

Genesis 16:13 So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”

During a season of growing anxiety, I came across Proverbs 12:25 which says, “anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad,” and I pleaded with the Lord to send me that good word. It didn’t come right away, but it came at just the right time. One Sunday morning, as I was about to leave church, an old friend pulled me aside, looked me straight in the eye, and spoke a confirmation over me that left me rejoicing with Hagar, “truly, I have seen him who looks after me!” Friend, can you imagine the suffering Hagar is facing at this moment? She’s been abandoned by the father of her child, betrayed by the woman she’s served for years, and left to fend for herself. But though she feels like trash, she’s treasure to the One who sees her best. And He won’t let her get too far without reminding her of it.

Christian, God sees you today, and that seeing is an abiding, empathizing care that won’t leave you stranded on the road.
