A Thundering Light
Isaiah 17:12
Ah, the thunder of many peoples; they thunder like the thundering of the sea! Ah, the roar of nations; they roar like the roaring of mighty waters!
Do you remember when Elijah defeated those 400 prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18 and then immediately followed that up by begging God to take his life? I wonder, friend: have you been that low recently? Has fear been suffocating the joy from your soul? Be encouraged by how the LORD responds to Elijah in 1 Kings 19:11b-13a, “and a great strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.”
Ah, the word of our Shepherd! Ah, the still, small voice of Heaven that penetrates the din of devils! Rise up like Elijah today, Christian, and let the light of Christ lead you out of the shadows of despair.
