A Family Game

Isaiah 45:15
Truly, you are a God who hides himself, O God of Israel, the Savior.

My two-year-old daughter has recently discovered the game hide-and-seek, and she asks me to play it with her multiple times throughout the day. The funny thing is that she typically hides in plain sight, often in the same spot every time, and when it’s my turn to hide she rarely comes to look for me. But I love the way her little face lights up whenever I ‘find’ her, even though the ‘finding’ is just my pretending for a while not to see her sitting right there in the corner of the room. That’s not so different from our walk with God, is it? Faith is a shared joy between us and our Father—a game in a way. We pursue Him with all our hearts and discover surprising little reminders of His presence. And He pursues us with all His heart, giving us the joy of being sought after, even though He knows where we are at every moment.

Friend, remember your Father’s invitation in Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” So seek! As my daughter loves to say, “It’s your turn now!”
