A Call from Galilee
Isaiah 9:1b
But in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
I can’t help but smile as soon as I read the words ‘Galilee of the nations,’ and I wonder if Isaiah has any clue as to what he’s prophesying here. Think of it, friend: this particular prophesy won’t even find its partial fulfilment until the life of Christ many centuries later. Effectively, Isaiah proclaims this way of the sea beyond the Jordan, without knowing that some of his greatest spiritual descendants will be fishermen on these very waters. He utters the word ‘Galilee’ without knowing that incarnate God will walk on Galilean waves and calm Galilean storms and minister from Galilean boats, shorelines, and hillsides. Isaiah has no idea how this promise will play out in the latter days, but he knows one thing for certain: God will keep His Word.
So Christian, what’s God whispering in your own heart right now? Is there a phone-call you need to make or a subscription you need to lose or a word you need to speak? If you’re feeling some divine nudge right now, obey it: trust it: speak it! Even if you don’t understand it.
